Roll-Royce Says it Won an Order With Singapore Airlines
Rolls-Royce PLC, the world's second-largest aircraft engine maker, said Friday that Singapore Airlines Ltd. chose its Trent 700 engine to power a new fleet of 19 leased Airbus A330-300 twinjets.
Deliveries of the new aircraft will begin in early 2009, the London-based company said in a statement. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
Rolls-Royce said the Trent 700 is the cleanest and quietest engine for the A330 and meets all current and proposed legislation on environmental targets.
Singapore Airlines currently operates a fleet of 63 Rolls-Royce powered aircraft, including five Airbus A340-500s and 58 Boeing 777s. The airline also has 10 Trent 900-powered A380s on order.
The deal also includes a long-term maintenance agreement.
Rolls-Royce shares fell 0.9 percent to 458.75 pence (US$8.75; euro6.86) on the London Stock Exchange.
