Autumn is always a special time of the year for me. Living in the Upper Midwest the temperatures have fallen, the color of corn and soybean fields have turned from greens to browns, while trees and other vegetation now are yellow, orange, and red colors. There’s nothing better than beginning my day with a cup of coffee on the patio watching the yard awaken.
Almost nothing better that is. Flying small airplanes this time of the year is always fun and very picturesque, especially near sunset when the bright orange sun is close to the horizon and blends with the colors on the ground. Even though I have not been flying lately, it’s always on my mind.
I just finished reading the article titled “Love to Fly”, beginning on page 40 of this issue of Aircraft Maintenance Technology. The article is about the Phillips 66 Aerostars airshow team, but it’s not all about the mechanics of the high-performance airplanes they fly or the engine oil used. It’s more about the group’s love of aviation.
A large portion of the story describes the activities the Aerostars pursue to attract young people to consider involvement in, or a career in aviation – a recurring theme we hear regularly these days. Thanks Aerostars.
NBAA-BACE
The National Business Aviation Association’s Business Aviation Convention & Exposition (NBAA-BACE) is another annual event that signals the end of summer. Held this year in Orlando, FL, Oct. 16-18, over 25,000 aviation professionals descend on Orange County Convention Center and Orlando Executive Airport. AMT Magazine and AviationPros.com will be there so stop by booth #1847, pick up some magazines, and say hello to one of the team.
NBAA will be actively prompting aviation careers to the next generation of professionals. The Young Professionals (YoPro) event will celebrate its fifth year, and NBAA will hold its Careers in Business Aviation Day on Thursday, Oct. 18. Aerobatic and air race pilot Anthony Oshinga will serve as keynote speaker.
