    Emergency Stops on Aircraft Gate Equipment Are Not Intended for Normal Stopping of Machinery

    An emergency stop button is only to be used in the event of some type of human or property emergency. Gate equipment, such as PCAs and GPUs have a pre-engineered means of orderly shut down sequence of operations.

    The objective of this paper is to explain the basics of airport gate ground support equipment operation, intended design (essentially), and why a continuous practice of stopping machines with their emergency stop buttons is not an appropriate or sustainable practice.
