Russian Regulator Grounds UTair's ATR 72 Aircraft

Commission will investigate whether UTair Technic complied with flight safety standards

UTair Airline's ATR 72 planes have been grounded pending the probe into the recent air crash near Tyumen, Russia's transport safety regulator Rostransnadzor said in a press release.

"Rostransnadzor has suspended flights of UTair Airline's ATR 72 planes pending the investigation into the crash near the Roshchino Airport outside Tyumen on April 2 and the company's efforts to lower the risks of flying by ATR 72 planes," it said.

UTair Technic's operations at Vnukovo Airport has been suspended until violations are amended, which led to the departure of UTair's airliners from Vnukiovo 4 Airport without proper deicing, the press release says.

Rostransnadzor has set up a commission to check whether UTair Technic company, based at Vnukovo and Roshchino airports, complied with flight safety standards.

An ATR 72 airliner of UTair Airline went off radar at 5:35 a.m. Moscow time on April 2 after it departed from Roshchino on a flight from Tyumen to Surgut. The plane was carrying 39 passengers and four crew members. Thirty-one people were killed in the air disaster, including the crew.
