Iberia Wins Madrid Handling Contract from Ethiopian Airlines

Iberia Airport Services will serve passengers and aircraft on the African carrier’s three weekly flights to Madrid.

Iberia Airport Services, Iberia’s handling division, has won a contract to provide passenger and aircraft handling services for Ethiopian Airline’s three weekly flights between Addis Ababa and Madrid airport, starting on 2 September.

The African carrier thus become one of the 200-plus airlines served by Iberia’s handling unit, Spain’s largest and one of the largest in Europe. In 2013 it served some 73 million passengers and 310,000 aircraft at 41 Spanish airports.

In March Iberia Airport Services submitted its bid to handle flights my third-party airline as the 22 Spanish airports with fewer than one million passengers per year. It will soon bid for aircraft and passenger handling concessions at the country’s 19 busiest airports.

Ethiopian Airlines is the country’s flag-carrier, and currently flies to 98 destinations, 81 of them abroad, using a fleet of 68 aircraft.
