Aircraft Propeller Service, LLC, a Global Aerospace Partners company, (APS, www.aircraftpropeller.com, Lake Zurich, IL), a global leader in aircraft propeller maintenance services, announced today that Fabio Nascimento, General Manager of its Atibaia, Brazil facility, has earned the 40 under 40 award by Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) as a member of its “Next Generation of Maintenance Professionals.” The magazine will announce all of the winners in its November/December 2017 edition. Through this program, AMT recognizes 40 individuals within the aircraft maintenance industry for their contributions and who have demonstrated initiative, growth and an impact on the aviation maintenance industry.

Since joining Aircraft Propeller Service, LLC (APS) in November 2015 as the General Manager for its Brazil facility, Fabio Nascimento has demonstrated strong leadership across all areas of operations. He leans on his aviation experience, technical acumen, and an extremely effective management style to drive the facility to higher and higher levels of performance since its opening in January 2016. Prior to opening, Fabio was instrumental in transitioning the team from UTC Aerospace Systems to APS after APS purchased the site in late 2015. Fabio, seeing a major opportunity to develop MRO capabilities in Brazil despite economic headwinds at the time, thrust himself headlong into the task of developing, then managing, a world-class shop in a growing market. The facility is now a prime example of Brazilian ingenuity, MRO prowess, customer focus, and team-member morale.

Since APS Brazil launched, Fabio’s personal and team achievements include: securing certification as a repair station by Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (COM Nr. 1605-41/ANAC), EASA (EASA 145,0800) and Brazilian Air Force (DIRMAB2016-005); helping the facility complete its first 568F blade major inspection for a top ATR operator in Brazil; successfully becoming ATR, Airbus Defense and Airbus Helicopter-qualified as an MRO; expanding the facility’s capabilities to include the entire 568F propeller assembly; launching a new multi-million dollar product line servicing helicopter servo actuators; gaining the company’s selection as a licensee for UTC Aerospace Systems actuators on AW 109, Squirrel, and Dauphin-series helicopters for operators throughout Brazil; and assisting Airship do Brasil realize significant savings and reduce turnaround times through the APS Brazil facility’s services. The executive team, headquartered in Lake Zurich, Illinois, continues to count on Fabio for not only the day-to-day management of the site, but also for creation and implementation of the company’s Brazil growth strategy.

Fabio noted that, he had a childhood passion for airplanes and a dream of becoming a high level professional within the aerospace segment. The small town in which he grew up was also the site of the largest MRO in Brazil, the LATAM Airlines MRO base in San Carlos. He started as an aircraft mechanic at age 18 and credited his father, Antonio do Nascimento as his chief mentor. The elder Nascimento, a retired military lieutenant, taught Fabio about having focus, discipline and respect, and being proactive as the keys to a successful career.

Prior to joining APS and in addition to these aforementioned achievements, Fabio had previously established himself as a formidable aviation industry professional. He rose steadily through the ranks at UTC Aerospace Systems, first as a Quality Control Inspector, then as a Design Engineer, and finally as an Operations Manager. In this last role at UTC, he was responsible for the Aerostructures and Actuations business units as well as new product introductions and facilities. His primary focus was critical to the facility reducing turnaround time and repair costs, as well as eliminating wastes along the repair chain. His management and overall performance led to a measurable increase in customer and employee satisfaction. His career also included various maintenance and quality roles at TAM Airlines.

Fabio is a graduate of the Central Paulista University with a major in Production Engineering. He also holds an International MBA in Strategic Business Leadership from Ohio University (Athens, OH) and Getulio Vargas Foundation. He also holds an MBA in Project Management from Getulio Vargas Foundation, and is pursuing a Master of Science in Business Administration Strategy from FIA-Administration Institute Foundation, which he plans to complete in 2019. He is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute and is part of the Brazilian Engineering Council CREA/SP with four titles: Production Engineer, Aircraft Maintenance Technician, Electronics Technician and Mechanical Technician. Additionally, he is a Licensed Mechanic in Airframe, Power Plant and Avionics by ANAC.

A strong believer in giving back to the industry, Fabio cites working hard to earn his customers’ satisfaction; keeping their airplanes flying safely; and keeping them fully informed as his way of positively impacting the industry.
