A SciFi Look At Air Travel

June 10, 2014
Self-cleaning surfaces? Morphing materials? Nano coated seats that react to your touch and release soothing scents, all with a panoramic view? Virtual golf? Social areas? Energy harvesting seats?

From a Facebook post we came across this morning, it looks like Airbus may have updated its glimpse of air travel in the future.

"We surveyed over 10,000 people around the world who will be passengers in 2050 to ask what they want from the aviation industry in the future,” the manufacturer says in a press release. “Their message was clear – we need to help as many people as possible share in the benefits that air transport brings, but we need to achieve this while looking after the environment."

Take a look for yourself. Self-cleaning surfaces? Morphing materials? Nano coated seats that react to your touch and release soothing scents, all with a panoramic view? Virtual golf? Social areas? Energy harvesting seats?

It’s all there. Of course, we imagine much of this space-age tech may be reserved for first and business class rather than steerage class in the back.

However, we have read some of these Airbus reports, and the manufacturer also has addressed what is more decidedly down to earth by comparison with a look at what ground handling operations might be like in the decades ahead. Have a look here.
