Honeywell Makes Maintenance Easier for Business Jet Operators

New solutions for Honeywell’s Primus Epic and Primus 1000/2000/SPZ integrated cockpits offer simple-to-upgrade hardware and software that will increase operators’ efficiency, and enable new mobile application for maintenance personnel and pilots.

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 17, 2015 – Honeywell Aerospace (NYSE: HON) is making it easier for maintenance personnel to get important data on and off the aircraft wirelessly to save time and costs. New solutions for Honeywell’s Primus Epic and Primus 1000/2000/SPZ integrated cockpits offer simple-to-upgrade hardware and software that will increase operators’ efficiency, and enable new mobile application for maintenance personnel and pilots.

“Consumers want information at their fingertips quickly and wirelessly; this no different for business jet maintenance personnel,” said Jeff Merdich, vice president, Cockpit Systems, Honeywell Aerospace. “Honeywell understands the desire for easy-to-access maintenance solutions and useful mobile applications, and we are bringing these products to business jet operators.”

About Wireless Data Loader for Primus Epic

Honeywell’s new Wireless Data Loader for Primus Epic cockpits recently received Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization, meaning it has met performance standards and is authorized for installation from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Wireless Data Loader enables secure wireless connectivity to an aircraft, and supports mobile apps such as MyMaintainer that allow maintenance personnel to wirelessly access information at the gate and perform fault analysis. It can improve maintenance cycles, cut downtime to make work easier for the ground crew, enable multitasking and reduce costs for operators.

With the FAA TSO approval, Honeywell’s Wireless Data Loader is now available as an upgrade for operators with a Honeywell Primus Epic cockpit. The unit is a simple drop-in replacement for previous Data Management Unit and Data LAN Management Unit data loaders offered by Honeywell. Installation is quick and easy, taking only a half-hour to swap out the old data loader and establish the secure connection with a one-time setup.

First implementation in 2015 is for ground use only, but in 2016 Honeywell has plans to release additional functionality to enable cockpit functions in-flight, cellular coverage and longer-range transmission of files.

Wireless Data Loading Using the MyHDM App for Primus® 1000/2000/SPZ

Primus 1000/2000/SPZ users will now be able to wirelessly update their cockpit navigation databases via tablet, with the MyHDM app for iPad. The new app is compatible with the Honeywell DL-1000 data loader, replacing older generations of data loaders, which improves the efficiency of navigation data updates. The combination of the DL-1000 data loader, a specially configured Wi-Fi SD card, and Honeywell’s MyHDM mobile app significantly streamlines database updates for pilots and operators.

Currently, manual updates are required for all navigation information in the cockpit. This entails downloading databases to physical media such as USB drives or even floppy disks, and uploading them directly into the cockpit avionics. With this wireless data loading system, pilots and operators can now easily install data with an intuitive mobile platform. Initial installation is also simple since the DL-1000 is a drop-in replacement for previous models. The Honeywell DL-1000 is available for purchase, and MyHDM is available to download for iPad.

Honeywell is showcasing its complete line of business aviation offerings at NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, Nov. 17−19, 2015, in Las Vegas in booth C7807.
