Eight New Mexico Airports to receive DOT funds

Improvement projects include $1.3 million for ARFF to $85,700 for apron rehab

The office of Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., issued the following news release:

U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman today announced that eight New Mexico airports will receive funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to make improvements to their facilities and runways.

"Airports are important to a community's ability to attract business and jobs. I am glad that the federal government is making this important investment in New Mexico's airports," Bingaman said.

Funding was awarded to the following:

* Roswell International Air Center - $1.31 million: Funding will be used to rehabilitate the apron and to purchase Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) proximity suits to meet requirements.

* Deming Municipal Airport - $300,000:Funding will be used to install a runway vertical/visual guidance system, which will make the airport more accessible to pilots by providing improved approaches to the runway ends.

* Socorro Municipal Airport - $332,500:Funding will be used to rehabilitate the taxiway and existing apron pavement.

* Truth or Consequences Municipal Airport - $315,000:Funding will be used to rehabilitate the existing taxiway pavement.

* Alexander Municipal Airport in Belen - $200,000:Funding will be used to rehabilitate the runway, which is needed to maintain structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris.

* Portales Municipal Airport - $139,880:Funding will be used to rehabilitate the runway, which is needed to maintain structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris.

* Vaughn Municipal Airport - $136,593:Funding will be used to acquire a new snow removal equipment tractor to enhance the airport's ability to clear the airfield during adverse weather conditions.

* Lordsburg Municipal Airport - $85,745: Funding will be used to rehabilitate the apron, which is needed to maintain structural integrity of the pavement.
