India’s first-ever VVIP plane, a Boeing 777-300ER, recently departed Fort Worth Alliance Airport, flying non-stop to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, India. Taking off from the airport, the plane covered roughly 8,000 miles in just over 15 hours. This long-range, non-stop flight was made possible by Fort Worth Alliance Airport’s milestone runway extension, which was completed in 2018, and extended both of the airport’s runways to 11,000 feet, providing the capacity needed for Boeing 777s. India’s top leaders will begin using the 777s modified by airport customer, GDC Technics, and will replace the Boeing 747-400 planes that have been used for the past 25 years by India’s dignitaries.
“The runway extension project was one of the most complex airport improvement projects to ever be undertaken by Hillwood or the Federal Aviation Administration,” said Tom Harris, president of Alliance Air Services. “The expansion will continue to provide greater flight capability and enable long-haul flights to take off fully-fueled under almost any weather condition. Transforming the role of Alliance Airport regionally and nationally enables expanded non-stop flight opportunities to boost business capabilities in Fort Worth and beyond.”
