American Airlines Returns to Halifax Stanfield

June 13, 2019

American Airlines and its passengers are feeling the love at Halifax Stanfield today as service to Philadelphia, a popular U.S. destination and strategic hub to points beyond, was reintroduced.

The non-stop service between Philadelphia and Halifax allows American travelers to easily visit the Maritimes, while offering Maritimers an opportunity to access all that Philadelphia and its connecting cities have to offer.

“We’re happy to have American Airlines back in Halifax, serving our region once again,” said Joyce Carter, President & CEO, Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA). “Having destinations like Philadelphia and New York LaGuardia, which launches later this week, provides more options for travellers, with the added benefit of boosting inbound trade and tourism to our own region.”

American Airlines, who is returning to Halifax for the first time since early 2017, is confident in this strategic return. The airline announced 18 additional routes in late 2018, with Halifax being the added as destinations from Philadelphia and New York LaGuardia.

"In addition to the direct links the new flights provide to two of the U.S's biggest cities, travelers can also enjoy easy connections to hundreds of destinations throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean from American's hubs in Philadelphia and New York," said Jose Maria Giraldo, Director Mexico & Canada, American Airlines. "Canada also is filled with important businesses and exciting leisure destinations, and American is so pleased to return to Halifax."

Members of the Halifax and Philadelphia business communities will also benefit from the return of this service between the two cities. The non-stop service saves valuable time when flying back and forth between countries and easier access to local and regional markets.

“As a longstanding Nova Scotia manufacturer, the export of our deep cycle batteries to rail, industrial, and global renewable energy markets continues to grow,” said Jeff Myles, Marketing Manager, Surette Battery Company Ltd. “Pursuing new opportunities and maintaining relationships with our key distributors and dealers throughout the United States requires frequent travel. We welcome the addition of non-stop service to these popular U.S. hubs and look forward to shorter travel times and the added convenience of clearing customs at our home base.”

Passengers flying to Philadelphia will utilize Halifax Stanfield’s U.S. Preclearance Facility, which enables passengers heading to the U.S. to clear customs and Border Protection in Halifax before departing.

“Utilizing non-stop routes and pre-clearing U.S. customs is one of the many benefits of flying from Halifax Stanfield,” said Carter. “We encourage the community to leverage this unique advantage to pre-clear customs at Halifax Stanfield so they can continue their journey quickly and easily upon arrival at their U.S. destinations, including Philadelphia.”
