Indianapolis Airport's CIO 'Released From Employment'

Another top executive is out at the Indianapolis Airport Authority, continuing changes that began last week with the departure of Executive Director John D. Clark III

March 28--Another top executive is out at the Indianapolis Airport Authority, continuing changes that began last week with the departure of Executive Director John D. Clark III.

In the latest move, Chief Information Officer Al Stanley was "released from employment," effective immediately, according to a message sent to Indianapolis International Airport employees.

He was thanked for his service, but the statement from spokesman Carlo Bertolini gave few other details.

Stanley and Clark had been friends at their previous jobs in Jacksonville, Fla., and Stanley followed Clark to Indianapolis in 2009.

Stanley's role in airport administration began as head of information technology at Indianapolis International, but Clark expanded Stanley's duties to other areas of airport management.

Stanley's resume showed no background in aviation or airports when he was hired for Indianapolis but listed 20 years of "global IT experience" in a variety of e-commerce, telecommunications and financial services companies.

Soon after he joined the Airport Authority, he began recommending that the board spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on new computer systems for the year-old, billion-dollar passenger terminal.

The reimbursement costs of travel by Clark, Stanley and others also drew questions.

Two trips for Stanley in the past year included one to Denmark to speak at a Passenger Terminal Expo conference, at a cost of more than $5,500. Another was an airport management conference in Brazil that cost about $10,000.

Stanley could not immediately be reached for comment.
