WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Federal Aviation Administration lifted a ground stop for all Southwest Airlines planes nationwide after issuing the stoppage earlier Tuesday at Southwest’s request.
“This morning @SouthwestAir experienced a technical issue with one of their internal systems. At the airline’s request, the FAA paused Southwest’s departures as they resolved the issue. The pause has been lifted and their service has resumed,” the FAA said in a tweet Tuesday.
Southwest cited equipment and technology issues as the reason for Tuesday’s temporary ground stop.
“We have had to implement a ground stop as a result of intermittent issues that were experienced, and we should hopefully be resuming our operation as soon as possible,” Southwest said in a tweet earlier Tuesday.
This temporary ground stop marked the latest mishap for Southwest Airlines, just months after the company received scrutiny for canceling thousands of Christmas season flights.
