Spirit Airlines to Debut at Norfolk Airport in March, Offer Daily Flights to South Florida

Oct. 10, 2022

Hampton Roads will have more convenient access to vacation destinations in Florida for less than $100 starting in March with the addition of Spirit Airlines at Norfolk International Airport.

Spirit, with its signature yellow planes, will offer daily, nonstop flights to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. The airline will also offer options for connecting flights to Puerto Rico, Latin America and the Caribbean, the company announced Tuesday.

The flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando will be available starting March 8. A one-way ticket to Fort Lauderdale will cost $86, while a one-way ticket to Orlando will be $66.

No other airline offers daily, nonstop flights from Norfolk to Fort Lauderdale, according to Spirit.

“Spirit Airlines’ decision to enter southeastern Virginia via Norfolk International Airport is a sign of confidence in our region,” said Norfolk Airport Authority President and CEO Mark Perryman in a news release. “Passenger demand hit all-time records this summer and 2022 is on a path to be the highest year in the airport’s 84-year history. Spirit’s new service from Norfolk to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, two of our largest markets, will be very well received within the community and we anticipate robust growth.”

The move into Norfolk comes after Spirit first began operating in Virginia in 2018 with flights out of Richmond.

The low-cost airline Breeze Airways launched service from Norfolk International Airport June 2021. The airline has since expanded nonstop service offerings to airports across the country.
