Spirit Airline Suspends Operations in Three States with High Number of Coronavirus Cases

March 31, 2020

Spirit Airline will no longer take Grand Strand travelers to northeastern states over concerns of spreading the coronavirus.

Due to travel warnings, the airline is temporarily suspending service to and from airports in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut until at least May 4.

Service to New York will be suspended at airports in New York City (LGA), Niagara Falls (IAG) and Plattsburg (PBG). In addition, Newark, N.J. (EWR) and Hartford, C.T. (BDL) will no longer be served.

Field Sutton, a spokesperson for the airline, said the move is to protect guests and follow recommendations from the Center for Disease Control. Spirit may make further changes to its operations by mid-week, Sutton said.

Customers with booked flights will receive an email in the coming days about what to do if their flight was canceled.
