IRVING, TX (03/11/15) – Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) –Irving campus is now offering specialized helicopter training. Students will graduate prepared to earn their Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification from the Federal Aviation Administration and will possess advanced skills specific to helicopters.
According to a recent article posted on the AviationPros.com website, there is a need for trained helicopter technicians. “It’s no secret that the helicopter industry around the world has a personnel problem: too many people are retiring ad there are not enough new recruits coming in.” AIM recognized this challenge and launched its specialized training to meet market needs.
After gaining a wide foundation in aircraft maintenance, students receive in-depth instruction on the specific concepts, procedures and techniques that apply to rotary aircraft. Coursework covers detail rigging, weight and balance, the extra care needed for loading helicopters, transmissions, rotor heads, rotor blades and much more. All together the combined Aviation Maintenance Technician training with the Helicopter focus is 25 months for full-time students attending class Monday through Thursday. Interested individuals who already possess an A&P certificate from the FAA may be able to enroll in the helicopter training only, but this should be discussed in detail with an admissions professional as certain restrictions apply.
