Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) said Thursday that Taiwan-based China Airlines and EVA Air have obtained the rights to launch direct flights between Taipei International Airport and Gimpo Airport in South Korea.
According to the bilateral agreement, a total of seven non-stop flights will be provided by the two airline companies every week to Gimpo Airport in Seoul, while Korea-based T'way Airlines and Eastar Jet will also schedule the same amount of direct flights to the airport in Taipei, formerly known as Taipei Songshan Airport.
Aircraft capacity on the route cannot exceed 200 seats, the CAA said.
However, the launch date of the new flights, which was originally scheduled at the end of this month, needs to be further discussed given that it is the first time for the selected airways to fly to the designated airports, the CAA added.
Following the non-stop services from Taipei to Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport and from Taipei to Tokyo's Haneda Airport in 2010, the inauguration of Taipei-Gimpo flights completes the last piece of the government's "Golden Aviation Circle in Northeast Asia," which aims to provide direct services from Taipei to other major cities in the Asia-Pacific region.
