Uzbekistan, Qatar to Sign Agreement on Opening of Direct Flights

The aviation authorities of Uzbekistan and Qatar are preparing for signing an Intergovernmental Agreement on Air Service, and are also working on the issues of establishing direct passenger flights between the two countries, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

According to the Uzbek Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the decision was made after negotiations between Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abdukhakimov and a delegation of the aviation authorities of Qatar.

Head of the Department of the Civil Aviation Authority of Qatar, Mohammed Faleh Al Hajri, noted that Uzbekistan has a huge tourism potential and rich historical and cultural heritage, which arouse great interest among Qatari residents.

As Al Hajri said, the signing of an agreement on air traffic between Uzbekistan and Qatar will serve as an impetus for further intensifying cooperation between our countries and increasing tourist and business exchange.

The head of the department of the Qatar Airways, Salam Al-Samarri, confirmed the high interest of the Qatari airline in operating flights to Uzbekistan and using the open skies regime at regional airports of the country, including attracting tourists from other countries of the Persian Gulf.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed on the earliest possible resolution of existing issues on the draft agreement and its further signing, as well as the continuation of the dialogue on the development of cooperation and the implementation of new projects in the field of tourism.
