Ultra-low fare carrier Frontier Airlines celebrated the opening of a new crew base at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). Steve Schuller, senior vice president, Human Resources, Frontier Airlines, and Candace McGraw, CEO, CVG, joined members of Team Frontier at the airport to mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The base is expected to employ 80 pilots and 160 flight attendants within its first year of operation. Combined with maintenance and airport positions, Frontier is projected to generate nearly $27 million annually in local wages.

The opening coincides with the launch of seven new nonstop routes from CVG this month, in addition to daily nonstop service to LaGuardia Airport in New York (LGA) which began last month. Service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), and Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) will launch May 16. Service to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston will begin May 17. Frontier is the fastest growing domestic airline at CVG and will now serve a total of 20 destinations from the airport.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the opening of this new crew base at CVG, which will help support our growing operations here and bring quality jobs to the Cincinnati area,” said Barry Biffle, CEO, Frontier Airlines. “Our expanding route map from CVG is providing even more opportunity for area consumers to take advantage of our ultra-low cost flights, whether traveling for business or leisure.”

“Frontier Airlines laid the foundation for low-cost carriers at CVG more than a decade ago, and the opening of the crew base brings more options for our passengers,” said McGraw. “In a matter of days, Frontier will be CVG’s first low-cost carrier to service Boston, and we are excited about the strong positive impact of our continued partnership on the surrounding region.”
