Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings now offers a urethane primer and sanding surfacer. It provides production time savings opportunities as it can double as either a traditional sanding surfacer or as a primer. MROs and paint shops can now use one product for two purposes and will see increased benefits because it dries twice as fast as traditional epoxy surfacer technology. This latest primer/surfacer is a high performance, corrosion inhibitive urethane primer that contains no hexavalent chromium. Offering outstanding sandability, it meets lower VOC levels versus comparable aerospace MRO products while still providing a very high square foot of coverage per gallon. Larson Electronics Magnalight adds the EPL-48-2L-T8HO explosion proof paint spray booth light to its line of hazardous area lighting. The 4-foot two-lamp Class 1 and Class 2 Division 1 fluorescent light is used for manufacturing and coating applications because of its T6 temperature and paint spray booth certification. The T8HO bulb option complements the T12HO, T5HO, T8, and LED options available for the EPL-48-2L series. PPG Industries’ aerospace coatings group has developed a “green” selectively strippable coatings system for Airbus Military A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport jets ordered by the U.K. Royal Air Force under the Future Strategic Transport Aircraft (FSTA) program that combines application and performance benefits with reduced repainting time and associated costs. PPG selectively strippable coatings systems simplify coatings removal and reapplication during repainting. The topcoat and intermediate coat are easily removed, and the primer is left intact. The aircraft is washed, and the intermediate coat and topcoat are reapplied. Sur Prep AP-1 is an adhesion promoter that can be used in the place of scuff sanding between coats of paint. It helps to re-activate the surface of the paint for subsequent coats to be applied. It can also be used for enhancing the adhesion of paint used for stenciling to topcoats. It is sprayed as a thin, wet film using standard paint application methods such as HVLP guns, air-assisted airless spray guns, and electrostatic spray equipment. It eliminates ergonomic injuries associated with mechanical abrasion. Other features include reactivates more uniformly than scuff sanding, eliminates sanding dust which can be environmental hazard, and reduces flow time. It improves durability of paint, adds minimal weight (<1 kg/1000 m2) to the painted surface, sharpens paint edges, and sprays easily for large area applications.
