3M Aerospace recently introduced 3M Tape and Residue Remover to provide aircraft maintenance crews an easier, safer method for the removal of adhesive residue. The solution effectively removes residue left behind by polyurethane protective tapes, neoprene rubber and pressure sensitive tape on interior cabin composite surfaces. Unlike many solvent based products used to remove adhesive residues, the Tape and Residue Remover from 3M can eliminate special handling procedures related to hazardous waste because it contains non-photochemically reactive solvents that are non-hazardous as defined by SCAPCO Rule 102. The remover is also virtually odorless, allowing it to be used while other maintenance duties are being performed in the aircraft cabin. "3M™s Tape and Residue Remover simplifies the removal of left-over adhesive by eliminating the need for scraping by hand, which is a laborious and time consuming practice," said Paul Neary, 3M Aerospace Marketing Segment Leader. "This non-solvent adhesive remover will increase the productivity of aircraft maintenance technicians and provide better results." Tape and Residue remover from 3M is easily applied to the tape surface with a squeegee. After a brief dwell period it is cleanly removed with a damp rag. Because no scrapers are required, this removal process reduces the risk of injury to personnel and damage to equipment. Additionally, the Tape and Residue Remover from 3M can be used to remove polyurethane protective tape in its entirety. Following a longer dwell period, the protective tape or boot can be cleanly pulled off.
