With a commitment from Bombardier Aviation Services to expand its Global Express business jets service, came the realization that its existing support facilities at the Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, CT would have to grow as well. Butler Heavy Structures of Kansas City, MO, a division of Butler Manufacturing Co., a BlueScope Steel Company, provided the framing system for the 74,000-square foot hangar. It measures 474 feet long by 176 feet wide and uses eight-foot and 12-foot deep trusses to achieve the necessary 124-foot and 113-foot clearspans. The hangar's roof is composed of Butler's MR-24 standing seam roof system and the exterior walls are sheathed with Butler's Shadowall panel system; www.heavystructures.com.
