The city of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,126,145 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in June, a 4.7 percent increase from June 2017. Passenger boardings were up 4.9 percent, with a total of 561,454 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 5,733,268, up 2.5 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 2,878,735, up 2.6 percent.
“Our midyear numbers include several significant milestones,” said Pat Klein, director of aviation. “Through June 2018, Kansas City International Airport has experienced 48 of 49 months of year-over-year increases in passengers served. It was the second busiest June on record and the fourth busiest month in the airport’s 45-year history. This is evidence of a strong local economy with travelers capitalizing on our airline partners’ affordable fares and nonstop service to top US and international destinations, including Canada, the Dominican Republic, Iceland and Mexico.”
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 2.2 percent in June with a total of 17.9 million pounds handled. Year to date, 104 million pounds have been handled, up 3.2 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during June amounted to 17.3 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 3.4 percent. Year to date, air freight is up 4 percent with a total of 100 million pounds handled. Air mail for June was down 25 percent from June 2017 with 572,023 pounds handled. Air mail is down 15.6 percent year to date with 3.8 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for June 2018 was 183. Service was offered to 52 nonstop markets. There was an average of 43,857 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 6 daily departures for June.
