Control Tower Gets World-Class Coverage

June 6, 2018

The nation’s second-tallest control tower is under construction at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina. Scheduled to open in 2020, the soaring state-of-the-art FAA tower is erected and is now being protected for the ages with industry-leading architectural coatings manufactured by Textured Coatings of America, Inc.

More than 700 gallons of TEX•COTE® products will cover the 370-foot-high structure. The TEX•COTE® products that are being applied to this structure include: XL 70® “W” PRIMER (a water-based primer); TEX•COTE® 600 Textured Coating in a smooth texture; TEX•COTE® COOLWALL® Classic Primer in a smooth texture; and TEX•COTE® COOLWALL® SUPER-COTE™ in a satin finish. All of these TEX•COTE® products are going into covering the facility’s 69,000 square feet of exterior wall space.

“It’s an extraordinary structure and a huge project ─ which is pretty much what we do,” said TEX•COTE® spokesman Mr. Dick Barnes.

Across the country and around the world, the family-owned and operated Textured Coatings of America, Inc. is an industry leader in researching, developing, and manufacturing technologically advanced sustainable architectural coatings.

Founded 57 years ago, the Los Angeles, California-based company has protected some of the world’s most prestigious buildings and landmarks ─ everything from the iconic Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles to seven of the top 10 bridges in America, college campus buildings, major retail centers, and homes from coast to coast. It has also previously covered control towers at international airports including Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Orlando, Palm Beach, and Memphis. Its next control tower project is scheduled in Tennessee.

At Charlotte International, the TEX•COTE® team is in the process of final inspections on the work, Mr. Dick Barnes said, adding: “It’s looking great. Everything is being done right, as we’d expect, to keep the tower and the administration building well-protected for decades.”
