Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) welcomed more passengers in 2017 than each year since 2012 – including 2013, the last full year of hub operations at CLE.
“The growth in passengers flying to and from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is a testament to the airport’s focus on growing air service and the quality of the traveling public’s experience,” said Mayor Frank G. Jackson. “It is also evidence of our region’s increasing reputation as a key destination for regional, national and international travel.”
“Residents of Northeast Ohio have made it clear that Cleveland Hopkins International Airport is their choice for more destinations at lower airfares,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “With the addition of new transatlantic service coming in 2018, we will continue our growth and our capacity to serve the region’s travelers.”
The total number of passengers for 2017 was 9,140,445 –an 8.52 percent increase over 2016 –with 725,174 passengers welcomed in December, a 14.74 percent increase over December 2016. Of the more than 9 million passengers in 2017, 96 percent of the passengers were origin and destination (O & D) passengers, meaning those passengers boarded or deplaned in Cleveland as opposed to connecting through CLE on to another destination. This is the airport’s highest O & D traffic since 2001.
