MILWAUKEE (January 11, 2018) – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele has announced that SkyWest Airlines has purchased a double hangar complex from Milwaukee County. At 190,000 square-feet, the new facility will be SkyWest’s largest maintenance facility, based on square footage. The hangars are located near the Airport Spur from I-94.
As part of the purchase, SkyWest will move from its current hangar at the MKE Regional Business Park. The new hangar complex on Air Cargo Way gives SkyWest the capacity to service up to twelve aircraft at one time. SkyWest expects to increase its workforce from approximately 75 up to 100 employees, with further growth possible.
“This is a major economic development for Milwaukee County that will result in increased jobs at the Airport. It’s clear that SkyWest sees great value in our local workforce, and we are excited that MKE is now home to the largest maintenance facility in SkyWest’s network,” Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said. “These hangars will be busy, with a team of mechanics performing maintenance on many aircraft every night, so these aircraft can depart early in the morning.”

St. George, Utah-based SkyWest Airlines maintains and operates Bombardier CRJ200, CRJ700, CRJ900, and Embraer E175 aircraft at MKE for Delta, United, and American. It also operates E175 aircraft for Alaska Airlines at MKE.
Mitchell Airport currently offers nonstop flights to 49 destinations coast-to-coast, and 160 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection. MKE is served by Air Canada, Alaska, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier, OneJet, Southwest, Swift Air (Apple Vacations and Funjet Vacations), United, and Volaris. General Mitchell International Airport is owned by Milwaukee County and operated by the Department of Transportation, Airport Division, under the policy direction of the Milwaukee County Executive and the County Board of Supervisors. The Airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the Airport’s capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
