Allegiant Air Launches New Route to Phoenix Today Out of Indy Airport

Nov. 17, 2017

Allegiant Air departs on its inaugural nonstop flight to Phoenix-Mesa Nov. 17, marking a new seasonal route from the Indianapolis International Airport (IND) to the U.S. Southwest.

This newest nonstop flight will depart from the Indy airport weekly on Mondays and Fridays at approximately 12:45 p.m. These flights will be available from now through February, giving travelers another warm vacation destination to counter the Midwest winter weather.

“This is the first nonstop flight out of Indy to Phoenix-Mesa,” said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. “Allegiant has added three new nonstop flights in 2017 alone. That growth also has contributed to the expansion of the Indy airport’s reach into the western United States – which has increased the value the Indy airport delivers to the Indianapolis community.”

Earlier this year, Allegiant launched year-round service to Austin, Texas and seasonal service to Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Allegiant connects Indy travelers to 12 nonstop destinations, including Las Vegas; Phoenix; Austin, Texas; New Orleans; Savannah, Georgia; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and six cities in Florida: Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Tampa/St. Pete, Punta Gorda/Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando/Sanford and Jacksonville.

In August, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation announced Allegiant’s plans to establish a crew base at IND, which will allow Allegiant to expand its nonstop service to and from Indianapolis.

“The addition of this route marks our continued growth in Indianapolis,” said Lukas Johnson, Allegiant senior vice president of commercial. “With the addition of our new crew base in February and an increased flight schedule in 2018, Indianapolis has proven to be a great market for us, and we’re excited to offer new flights to Phoenix and our other great destinations to Indy travelers.”

Earlier this month, seasonal nonstop flights to Tampa with Frontier Airlines took off, and Southwest Airlines announced year-round, nonstop flights from the Indy airport to Oakland beginning in July 2018, and seasonal service to Southwest’s first international destination from Indy, Cancun, launching in March 2018. The Indy airport averages 143 daily flights, seasonally and year-round, and has tied a historical record of 49 nonstop destinations set in 2005.
