Naples Airport Authority: Focused on Community Throughout the Storm

Oct. 31, 2017

Continuing their commitment to community service, Naples Airport Authority served as a community partner for essential services before, during and after Hurricane Irma.

Naples Airport Authority board of commissioners recognized several individuals and local organizations with a Hurricane Irma Appreciation Proclamation at a recent board meeting for “their exemplary response and support in providing valuable assistance with the recovery efforts at the Naples Airport.”

Individuals and entities included in the proclamation were staff members from Collier County, city of Naples and city of Naples Fire Rescue Department, Charlotte County Airport Authority, Lee County Port Authority, Owen-Ames-Kimball Company, Softrim, Robinson Aviation and Naples Jet Center, among others.

In addition, numerous airport employees were recognized with special “Storm Trooper” honors for putting duty and the good of their community first.

With the help of its dedicated employees, NAA removed debris, cleared runways and reopened to military and emergency relief aircraft the day after the Category 3 storm passed through Naples. One week after Hurricane Irma, NAA fully resumed normal operations.

“We are committed to providing an airport that is a responsive partner in service to its community,” said Naples Airport Authority Executive Director Chris Rozansky.

The city of Naples Fire Station 3; MedFlight, the aviation-related operations of Collier County Emergency Medical Services; the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit and Collier Mosquito Control District were also able to resume operations from the airport shortly after the storm to provide critical services to the community.

The Naples Airport also served as staging area for FPL crews immediately after the storm – and for weeks after as they worked to restore power to the area.
