The city of Flagstaff and Pulliam Airport announced the completion of the repaving project and formal reopening of the runway. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Aug. 15 at the airport.
“The Pulliam Airport provides a valuable service to Flagstaff and is a powerful economic generator” said Flagstaff Mayor, Coral Evans. “We are excited to formally reopen the runway and look forward to resuming support of commercial air service, medical, business, military and general aviation traffic.”
This project was undertaken as the runway pavement was oxidized, distressed and had grade irregularities that could have damaged aircrafts if not corrected. This was a two phase effort that included a mill and overlay of the runway pavement, connecting taxiways A1 to A9, new asphalt shoulders, pavement sealing of the blast pads and pavement striping and needed markings. The repaving portion required a complete runway shutdown from June 11 – June 17.
“The project team and our partners at the airport worked together to ensure this was completed on time and with minimal disruption” said Flagstaff City Manager, Josh Copley. “Thanks to everyone for their patience during the shutdown.”
The project was funded by grants from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Arizona Department of Transportation and city funds.
