Edelweiss/SWISS to Open a New Direct Flight Between Zurich and Denver

July 5, 2017

Edelweiss is further expanding its route network to North America. Beginning June 4, the airline will offer seasonal flights between Zurich and Denver.

An Edelweiss Airbus A330-300 will fly twice weekly between Zurich and Denver connecting the two cities directly. The new connection allows Swiss and other European tourists to reach Denver with ease and in comfort.

“Denver and the Rocky Mountains are very popular among Swiss tourists, they love the combination of a vibrant city and idyllic nature,” said Edelweiss CEO Bernd Bauer. “Swiss vacationers tend to spend more time and money than visitors from other countries. Our flights will bring approximately 7,500 visitors to Denver in 2018, generating an annual economic impact to the State of Colorado of more than USD 21 million.”

Nearly 30,000 passengers currently travel between Denver and Switzerland each year, with heavier traffic in the popular summer season. Denver also ranks as the second-largest U.S. market without nonstop service to Zurich, with nearly 50 people per day traveling between the two cities.

“Both Denver and Zurich offer stunning natural vistas and recreational opportunities, they have thriving economies and rank among the most innovative cities in the world,” said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock. “This flight not only underscores Denver’s position as a global city but will create nearly 200 new jobs, further strengthening our regional economy.”

As well as opening Denver to Swiss and other European visitors, the new route offers a convenient nonstop flight for travellers from metropolitan Denver to the heart of Europe, with many onward flight options from Zurich to other European cities through the network provided by Swiss International Air Lines.

“Denver has never before had a nonstop flight to Switzerland, and we are delighted to add Edelweiss as our 25th airline at Denver International Airport,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “This new nonstop service to Zurich further deepens Denver’s air service network and global connectivity, and we look forward to partnering with Edelweiss to support the long-term success of this new flight.”
