SARASOTA, Fla., April 26, 2017 – L3 Aviation Products has received Technical Standard Order (TSO) authorization and an Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for its EFI-650 cockpit display, a new integrated Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display (AMLCD) designed for regional and legacy corporate aircraft, as part of an alliance with Thomas Global Systems.L3’s new EFI-650 will be offered as a retrofit option during maintenance of in-service aircraft with older displays. This solution will be available for several aircraft operated by regional airlines and business jet operators, as well as for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) entities.“Our EFI-650 product line features a state-of-the-art, cost-effective display for regional and business aviation customers,” said Stuart Mullan, President of L3 Aviation Products. “This solution is lighter, produces less heat and requires less power than aging Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs) and will extend the life of legacy aircraft by offering reliable AMLCD technology for displaying critical flight data.”AMLCD has double the reliability of CRT-based displays, which are subject to degradation over time. This technology has improved reliability due to its lower power requirement and achieves a significant reduction in weight per cockpit of up to 20 to 25 pounds. The EFI-650 has been developed as part of L3’s alliance with Thomas Global Systems and incorporates Thomas Global’s Adaptive Display Architecture display processing technology.Angus Hutchinson, CEO of Thomas Global, said, “We are delighted to be working with L3 and extending the reach of the Adaptive Display Architecture platform.
