Monthly Passenger Traffic Surpasses One Million at OAK in March

April 26, 2017

Oakland International Airport (OAK) reports 1,008,886 airline passengers for the month of March, a 4.8 percent increase over March 2016.  This is the first time passenger traffic at OAK exceeded one million for the month of March since 2007.

International operations increased by 73 percent over the same period last year, with Southwest Airlines commencing its first international routes in February – from Oakland to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In March, OAK also welcomed new service on Norwegian to Copenhagen, and on British Airways to London. International traffic is expected to increase more in June when two airlines begin nonstop service to Barcelona.  LEVEL, a newcomer from International Airlines Group (IAG), parent company of British Airways, among others, starts service on June 2nd, and Norwegian begins service on June 7th.

Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Bryant L. Francis said, "Travelers both to and from the Bay Area are responding well to the growing number of air service options at Oakland International, both domestically and internationally. As we continue to grow service and enhance infrastructure, I’m pleased to see Bay Area residents continuing to choose Oakland, along with many new travelers visiting from around the globe."
