FORT PIERCE — St. Lucie County officials will be unveiling the conceptual plans for the new 30,000-square-foot hangar to be built inside the Treasure Coast International Airport and Business Park at the MRO Americas trade show on Tuesday, April 25 at 3 p.m.
Islamorada Beer Company’s North Brewery, which is located next to the Fort Pierce airport, will be part of the event, offering a chance to win a “Brewery Tour for Six.”
MRO Americas is the world’s largest trade show and gathering for aviation businesses and professionals, taking place at the Orange County Convention Center from April 25 to 27. St. Lucie County and the St. Lucie County Economic Development Council will be promoting the Treasure Coast International Airport and Business Park inside the Florida Pavilion, Booth 4203, throughout the event. The Orange County Convention Center’s South Concourse is located at 9899 International Drive, Orlando.
Ideally situated between Orlando and Miami on Florida’s east coast, the Treasure Coast International Airport and Businesses Park has received state and federal grants to build a $6 million hangar which will provide additional business opportunities inside the 3,600-acre aviation park.
Formerly known as the St. Lucie County International Airport (FAA Identifier: FPR), the airport is owned and operated by the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners. The general aviation airport houses 12 maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) businesses that employ about 1,300 people with a $50 million payroll. The Treasure Coast International Airport handles more than 160,000 operations annually with 22,000 clearing Customs each year.
St. Lucie County has invested more than $261 million in infrastructure at the airport with plenty of room for expansion. Most recently, construction crews are finalizing a $2.1 million renovation project to the airport’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection Facility, originally built in 1979, to compliment the newly renovated terminal building, which was a $5 million project completed in 2012.
The Treasure Coast International Airport and Business Park has been experiencing a surge in activity and publicity. Twice in the past year, Air Force One has landed at and taken off from the airport with former President Barack Obama vacationing in the area.
The airport has been named numerous times the top aviation nrelated Customs facility by FltPlan.com (http://FltPlan.com), the largest provider of flight planning services for corporate and business aircraft in the United States, based on pilot surveys.
