British Airways Begins Service to Oakland March 28

March 16, 2017

On March 28, Oakland International Airport will offer 62 nonstop destinations with the addition of new London service on British Airways, the most in its 90-year history.

The new service will make British Airways the only European airline to operate from all three Bay Area airports. For Oakland International, the new route represents the expansion of its international air service selections, and a surge in new routes in recent years.

The new London Gatwick-Oakland route will operate four days a week, accommodating 275 customers across a three-cabin Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.  Travelers in Club World business class and/or with qualifying British Airways and “Oneworld” elite status are invited to use the new Escape Lounge prior to departure. The lounge opened in November; also operated by a British company, Manchester Airport Group (MAG USA).

Port of Oakland Director of Aviation, Bryant L. Francis stated, “It is with much excitement that Oakland International Airport welcomes British Airways. As OAK continues to grow in passengers and destinations, this new transatlantic service to the top European destination reflects the increasing opportunities and convenience now available for travelers to and from the entire Bay Area region.  Oakland International is the Bay Area airport closest to the majority of the region’s residents and businesses."
