Memphis International Airport Taps Into Hometown Pride With New Video and Contest

March 10, 2017

Memphis International Airport (MEM) is giving spring break travelers a chance to win prizes simply by taking a selfie and telling the world “I Fly MEM.”

The contest urges flyers to snap a selfie of themselves at a social media “hot spot” in the B ticketing lobby that displays an “I Fly MEM” logo, then share that selfie on MEM’s Facebook page. By doing that, participants are entered to win one of several daily prizes including $20 Paradies gift cards for use at the airport’s retail shops and First Team MEM t-shirts autographed by Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Tony Allen. The grand prize is two round-trip tickets to Toronto, Canada from MEM’s newest airline, Air Canada, which begins operations May 1.

The contest coincides with the release today of a new video by MEM featuring several notable Memphians proudly stating, “I Fly MEM.” Among those starring in the video are former University of Memphis basketball and NBA star Penny Hardaway; Memphis Grizzlies star Tony Allen; Pat Halloran, CEO of the Memphis Development Foundation; Al Paris of the band Kool and the Gang; National Civil Rights Museum President Terri Freeman; and Kevin Kane, President and CEO of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and several other notable TV and local personalities.

“We want the Memphis International Airport to be the airport of choice for the Mid-South,” said Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority President and CEO Scott Brockman. “What better way to show that we are the ‘handshake’ of Memphis than to capture our community showing support and having fun at the airport. We’re proud to serve this community and we know there are plenty of Memphians out there who are proud to fly MEM.”
