Feb. 27, 2017

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) was honored at a recent aviation industry event for outstanding airport performance in the 5- 15 million annual passenger category. The CLE team was selected by a panel of airline executives for superior efforts among North American airports for marketing outreach to the airline industry, partnerships with airlines and success in attracting new air service.

“This is an honor for Cleveland,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “This award is decided by airlines, which means they are watching Cleveland and they see a strong track record of success built upon an actively engaged community that supports new air service and destinations.” CLE was recognized specifically for efforts to attract new carriers and expand service including: Frontier, Spirit, JetBlue and in 2017 Allegiant. Seven airlines including incumbent airlines: American, Delta and Southwest have launched 43 new Cleveland routes since the hub closed.

Included in the award submission was the airport’s “Less Fare, More There” campaign created with Cleveland based Recess Creative highlighting the airport’s lower airfares and breadth of new service to where Northeast Ohio travelers most desire to travel.
