New Exit Lane Security System in Place at Tulsa International Airport

Feb. 17, 2017

Tulsa International Airport has installed a new automated one-way exit lane system that reduces operating expenses and enhances the flow of inbound passengers, while maintaining the safety and security of passengers within the post-security area.

The new system is located at the exit of Concourse B and replaces the previous revolving door that was often a frustration of passengers who encountered a line when waiting to exit to the baggage claim area. While the old system only allowed for two passengers to exit about every five seconds, which equated to about 1,440 passengers per hour, the new double-lane doors will accommodate approximately 7,200 passengers per hour.

The KABA system uses a combination of automated technology that includes alarms and motion analytic sensors. The doors automatically open for people approaching but will sound an alarm if someone approaches from the opposite direction. If alarms are activated, the series of exit doors will not open until cleared by airport law enforcement officers.

“This new technology allows us to improve the experience of our passengers while maintaining a barrier that keeps them safe,” said Mark VanLoh, CEO of Tulsa International Airport. “The fact that we have implemented a solution that improves our efficiency and reduces costs demonstrates our staff’s commitment to our customers and our organization.”

The system costs approximately $290,000, but will save the airport around $262/day from no longer needing a security guard stationed at the exit lane. The airport plans to replace the Concourse A exit door within the next year.
