Southwest Airlines and Kalitta Air Join AFRA as Airline Members

AFRA recently expanded its membership categories to invite airline companies to participate in the trade association.

Washington, DC (Thursday, January 5, 2017) – The Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association (AFRA) is pleased to welcome Southwest Airlines and Kalitta Air LLC as its newest airline members. AFRA recently expanded its membership categories to invite airline companies to participate in the trade association – at no charge.

AFRA represents companies from across the globe and throughout the aircraft end-of-life supply-chain – from manufacturers to materials recyclers. Previously, membership was targeted toward companies focused on recycling and dismantling of aircraft, research universities and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). In an effort to engage a broader spectrum of the industry in the aircraft end-of-life management discussion, AFRA is now extending complimentary membership to airlines.

At the core of AFRA’s mission is its Best Management Practices (BMP) guide of recommendations concerning best practices for the management of end-of-life aircraft disassembly and recycling. And the perspectives and participation from airline companies on this topic are welcome as AFRA strives to promote efficient and safe practices in end-of-life aircraft disassembly and recycling.

“The initiative is simply about bringing the key aircraft fleet stakeholders to the table,” said AFRA’s Executive Director, Reed Hitchcock. “And with recent AFRA initiatives including MOUs with both the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) regarding engagement in discussions on best practices for aircraft end-of-life, we believe that airlines – as the primary aircraft users – need a seat at the table.”

Interested airline companies are asked to complete a brief application available on the AFRA website (www.AFRAassociation.org) to officially be considered for membership and, in exchange, have the opportunity to participate in shaping environmentally responsible, safe end-of-life aircraft disassembly and recycling practices.
