Jan. 6, 2017

Southwest Airlines Co. announced plans to serve Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) beginning June 4. Southwest will begin service with an initial flight offering of eight daily departures including three nonstop flights to Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport and five nonstops between Cincinnati and Chicago Midway. Through these key cities, travelers will have the opportunity to connect to Southwest’s network which includes more than more than 100 cities across the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

“We’ve been working hard with our community partners to have Southwest serve the Tri-State region,” said Candace McGraw, chief executive officer, CVG. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer our passengers another option when traveling CVG.”

“This month marks the 70th anniversary of CVG, and we’ve had a long, bright history,” said J. Michael Schlotman, CVG board chairman. “With this announcement the future looks even brighter. We’re very excited.”

“This is a remarkable reminder that the reforms we made to the airport board in 2015 continue to yield tremendous benefits to our community,” said Kenton County Judge Executive Kris Knochelmann. “By delivering greater accountability and protecting professionalism, we’ve positioned our region’s airport to succeed in the 21st century. I’m very proud of Board Chair Mike Schlotman, the whole Airport Board, CEO Candace McGraw and the entire team here at CVG, and I’m very optimistic about our airport’s future and the role it will play in our community’s economic development efforts for decades to come.”
