Bishop International Airport Celebrates Successful 2016

Dec. 29, 2016

As our region prepares to ring in a new year, Bishop International Airport looks back on an exciting and prosperous 2016. In 2016, our team continued to focus on bringing the highest level of air service to the region. As a result, the airport proudly welcomed new routes and a new airline in 2016.

In April, Southwest launched three daily flights from Flint to Chicago-Midway. This new route opened up more connections than ever before to the airline’s expansive network. Passengers can now easily connect to their favorite cities like Phoenix, Houston, Austin, Nashville, and many more. Later that same month, Bishop welcomed Allegiant. The ultra-low cost carrier offers twice weekly nonstop routes to Tampa/Bay St. Pete and Orlando/Sanford. In July, FNT took a bite out of the Big Apple. United Airlines introduced daily nonstop flights to New York/Newark. This route is a vital east coast connection for business and leisure passengers. The flight is perfectly timed for a day trip if you have meetings in the city and want to return home the same evening.

“2016 was an exciting year, and we are proud to offer our passengers more travel options, while enhancing our role as a strong economic contributor in the region,” said Craig Williams, airport director.

In addition to the changes, longtime routes to Minneapolis and Atlanta with Delta, and daily nonstop flights to Chicago O’Hare with United and American continue to be popular with the region’s travelers. As we look to 2017, the airport will remain focused on growing air service, while continuing to provide a high-value airport experience to our customers.
