Boingo Connects Millions of Travelers To Fast, Free Wi-Fi Over Holiday Season

Dec. 13, 2016

Boingo Wireless will connect millions of passengers to fast, free Wi-Fi over the peak holiday travel season. During the Thanksgiving weekend alone, millions of Boingo Wi-Fi connections were made around the globe, ensuring travelers stayed connected to flight updates, sports scores, weather and of course, cat videos.

“When it comes to connectivity over the holidays, Boingo has you covered," said Dawn Callahan, chief marketing officer at Boingo. “Whether you're flying to make a last-minute sales pitch before the end of the year, or simply getting home for the holidays, Boingo delivers fast, free Wi-Fi for every passenger, plus premium Wi-Fi options for power users."

“Boingo is the lifeline to connectivity at airports,” said Peter Shankman, bestselling author of Zombie Loyalists: Using Great Service to Create Rabid Fans and frequent business traveler who is on the road hundreds of days per year. “From sending large presentations just before takeoff to streaming my favorite show during a delay, Boingo is my reliable travel companion over the holidays and year round.”

Boingo has invested millions of dollars to upgrade its Wi-Fi networks at major airports throughout the U.S. These upgrades deliver Boingo’s next generation Wi-Fi solutions, including its S.M.A.R.T. Network design and Passpoint connectivity.

S.M.A.R.T Networks—which stands for Secure, Multiplatform, Analytics-Driven, Responsive and Tiered—feature various speed options to meet the varying connectivity needs of travelers. Fast, free Wi-Fi is available to all passengers, typically in exchange for watching a brief advertisement. For business travelers who need the airport to function as an extension of their office, premium Wi-Fi with speeds of up to 50 Mbps is available.

Passpoint technology is also making it easier than ever to get connected to Wi-Fi. Travelers with a Boingo Passpoint profile on their device will automatically connect to Wi-Fi with no log-in or passwords required, much like connecting at home or the office. Passpoint also comes with built-in encryption, which turns otherwise open public hotspots into a secure connection. Today, more than 150,000 of Boingo's 1MM+ hotspots are Passpoint-enabled, making it simple and easy to get online. Sprint customers, Time Warner Cable customers—now Charter Spectrum—and Boingo subscribers now enjoy automatic, seamless, secure connections at the airport through Passpoint.
