Denver Airport to Offer Free Ice Skating Rink

Nov. 23, 2016

Denver International Airport (DEN) will kick off its holiday experience this week with a free ice skating rink on the open-air plaza. The ice skating rink will then be followed by decorations adorning the Jeppesen Terminal and live entertainment filling the air with excitement. This joyful experience will continue outside on the DEN Plaza with a holiday market, the continuing “Film on the Fly” series with a holiday classic film and more. There is “snow place like DEN” this holiday season.

The free ice skating rink will be on the DEN Plaza for everyone to enjoy Nov. 25 to Jan. 1, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily. DEN will provide a true Colorado winter experience on ice with characters and carolers surprising the crowd as they spontaneously show-up and provide entertainment. There will also be family-friendly music playing in the background. The ice skating rink has been made possible in partnership with United Airlines.

Visitors to the ice skating rink and other holiday activities will have the opportunity to enter to win two round trip tickets on United Airlines, restrictions apply. Stop by anytime between Nov. 25 and Jan. 1, to enter to win.

In addition to the ice skating rink, DEN will host a variety of events through Dec. 24, including:

  • Dec. 7 – DPS@DEN Performance Series: Denver Public School students from Noel Community Arts School will perform from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. The choir and dance team will perform on the DEN Plaza and in the Jeppesen Terminal.

This is a great opportunity to find the perfect gift, while supporting local businesses.

The film begins at 6 p.m. so get ready to laugh out loud with the Griswalds. Film on the Fly is presented in partnership with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Littleton. Some seats will be available but participants are encouraged to bring their own chair or cushion to ensure a seat.
  • Dec. 16 – 24 – Holiday Entertainment: A variety of holiday entertainment will be offered from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily in the Jeppesen Terminal. The entertainment will consist of local choirs, caroling groups, singer/songwriter musicians, pianists, brass band and dance groups who will fill DEN’s Great Hall with the magic of the holiday season.

“During the winter holiday travel season, millions of passengers pass through Denver International Airport en route to visit family and friends, to enjoy Colorado’s extraordinary wintertime recreation options, or just to connect to another part of the world,” said airport CEO Kim Day. “This year we are providing a variety of new entertainment options and we encourage passengers to come early and spend some extra time with us to enjoy the Colorado spirit at the airport.”

The plaza is located pre-security, is open to the public and is accessible just steps from the new University of Colorado A Line station at DEN (tickets are $9 and good for multiple trips during the same day), or a short walk from the airport parking garages ($3/hour). The Great Hall is located in the center of the Jeppesen Terminal also located pre-security and open to the public.
