Nov. 11, 2016

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded a grant  for $9.6 million to Huntsville International Airport- Carl T. Jones Field to be used to improve infrastructure.  Specifically, the grant will be used to construct a new parallel taxiway at the airport.  The projected completion date for this improvement is by August.

"Huntsville International Airport is continuously working to improve our infrastructure," said Rick Tucker, Port of Huntsville executive director.  "Grants like this afford us the opportunity to make improvements that are crucial to our region's economy and that allow us to stay competitive in the global marketplace."

This was one of six grants valued at over $90 million that were awarded by the FAA to improve infrastructure at airports across the country.  U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said, "A safe and efficient transportation system for the travelling public requires building and maintaining the airport infrastructure at our nation's airports.  When we fund critical projects like these, we're making an important investment in our future while also creating jobs and supporting local economies across the country."
