Lufthansa Commemorates  1-Year of Service Between Tampa and Frankfurt

Sept. 26, 2016

On Sept. 25, Lufthansa will commemorated its first year of service to Tampa. On Sept. 25, 2015, Lufthansa officially launched the route from Frankfurt to Tampa, which joined Miami and Orlando as Lufthansa’s third destination in the “Sunshine State”. Through its home base at Frankfurt airport, and together with its Lufthansa Group carriers and Star Alliance partners, Lufthansa provides passengers from the Tampa Bay area, nonstop flights to Germany, as well as connection options with convenient access to the world’s largest airline network with more than 174 destinations worldwide. Upon arrival in Frankfurt, passengers have access to 104 one-stop connections in Europe, 11 destinations in Africa and 21 cities in Asia.

In Lufthansa’s current summer schedule, effective until October 29, five weekly flights between Tampa and Frankfurt are offered. The winter schedule 2016/2017 will offer four flights per week. Flight times are approximately nine hours between the two cities.

“With our year-old non-stop service between Tampa and Frankfurt, even more Floridians can enjoy the quality service and premium products that Lufthansa offers in all three traveling classes. We are delighted that this route was so well received and in demand by travelers during the past year,” said Juergen Siebenrock, Vice President of The Americas, Lufthansa Group. “We were honored to be welcomed so warmly by Tampa International Airport and the Tampa community, with which we established a solid partnership, even to this day.” he continued.

The aircraft on this route, the Airbus A340-300, is equipped with FlyNet, Lufthansa’s broadband internet access product, and offers a three-class configuration that includes 30 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats and 221 Economy Class seats, for a total of 279 seats.

In terms of the on board product, Lufthansa’s Business Class offers a unique seating arrangement in the form of a “V” that angles two neighboring seats towards one another along a central axis. This innovative solution enables Lufthansa to fulfill one of the main wishes expressed by customers during an extensive research process – to sit or lie facing the direction of travel, while at the same time virtually doubling the distance between two neighboring seats at shoulder level so Business Class passengers have greater privacy and more space. At the push of a button, the seat converts to a full-flat, horizontal sleeping surface measuring 6’6” in length. Ergonomically improved cushioning ensures a high degree of comfort in a sitting or horizontal position, and adjustable armrests provide more space in the shoulder area when lying down.

Located between Business and Economy Class, the new Premium Economy Class combines affordability with greater comfort, offering 50 percent more room than standard Economy, as well as a seat pitch of 38 inches, height-adjustable head and foot rests and individual armrests. Other features surrounding the seats include a bottle holder, electrical outlet and ample storage. Premium Economy passengers also receive a baggage allowance of two items weighing up to 50 pounds each and access to Lufthansa Business Class Lounges for 25 EUR. The 221 Economy Class cabin seats also feature an in-seat video screen and an optimized ergonomic seat design with a slimmer seat back that adds to more personal space per passenger.

During its first year of service, Lufthansa transported approximately 50,000 passengers from Tampa to Frankfurt alone. Some of the most popular end destinations that Lufthansa passengers traveling from Tampa visit are: Frankfurt, Budapest, Rome, and Cairo.
