Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) was awarded two federal grants totaling $15.3 million this week to fund perimeter fencing technology upgrades and the rehabilitation of the aircraft parking apron located on the southeast airfield area. These significant federal grant awards were made possible by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and through the support of Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) and Congressman Mike Honda (CA-17).
One grant for $8.1 million will fund perimeter fencing technology upgrades to enhance SJC’s security program. This will include the design, purchase and installation of state-of-the-art surveillance technologies in targeted areas inside the perimeter fence line. The hi-tech hardware and software will complement the recent upgrades to 10,000 linear feet of fence line which included raising the height to 11 feet from the previous seven feet which met all federal standards.
“I’m pleased to see another sizeable federal investment in Mineta San Jose International,” said Lofgren. “By ensuring the airport’s safety and by maintaining critical infrastructure, we are taking steps to ensure that more businesses and travelers will choose Mineta as the gateway to the Valley.”

SJC remains an important conduit for the South Bay area and the Silicon Valley."
A second grant for $7.2 million will fund the rehabilitation of 200,000 square feet of asphalt apron used for parking commercial, charter and cargo aircraft in the southeast airfield area.

This funding allows us to achieve our goals by upgrading perimeter security through state-of-the-art technology and restoring commercial aircraft parking areas.”
The federal grants are administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.
