BHM Introduces New Post-Security Service Animal Relief Area

Sept. 20, 2016

The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) opened its second service animal relief location Sept. 19. The indoor post-security Service Animal Relief area is located on Concourse C and complements the outdoor pre-security area already in place. This location is meant to facility a quick visit to the bathroom for pets and their owners that have already completed the screening process or are connecting at BHM before heading out on their flight.

The area is furnished with an ornamental fire hydrant, artificial turf, specifically design for pet use, a convenient spray hose and waste bags to ease cleanup for owners.  The room is also equipped with a sink for pet owner handwashing use.

“Our original pre-security location has always been a beloved amenity for our passengers that travel with service dogs, emotional support animals or pets.” said Al Denson, BAA President and CEO.  “This complements our original Service Animal Relief area; we recognize the growing need for an indoor post-security location to accommodate passengers traveling with service animals.  This latest initiative follows along with our philosophy of easy and convenient travel for Central Alabama.  At BHM, we work to make the travel experience less stressful and more hospitable to all.”
