Roanoke Signs Deal with Clear Channel Airports

Aug. 31, 2016

As airports across the nation have cleared the runway to own the coveted role of “first and lasting impression” of their home city, airport authorities have upped their game to leverage this unique position into a revenue generating opportunity for local, regional and national businesses looking to connect with the business and leisure traveler. And Roanoke Regional Airport Commission (RRAC) is among those in-line for take-off inking a new partnership with Clear Channel Airports (CCA) the for the implementation of innovative and experiential advertising opportunities at the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport (ROA). Nearly 600,000 passengers traveled through ROA in 2015 and the majority of those were business travelers. Beginning in October, 2016, advertisers will be able to reach this lucrative, captive consumer base with their highly visible advertising messages.

Clear Channel Airports (CCA) will implement an enhanced advertising program at ROA which includes state-of-the-art digital assets, terminal-wide digital networks, product enhancements and a highly marketable inventory across the terminal concourse and in baggage claim visible to ROA passengers, meeters and greeters.

ROA is the largest commercial service airport in Southwest Virginia and serves nineteen counties including three counties in West Virginia. The majority of passengers at ROA travel for business purposes and many passengers come from all over the world to visit area businesses and universities.

Because the region is home to Virginia Tech and 20 other colleges and universities within a 60 minute drive of the airport as well as host to many festivals, conferences and a growing craft brew travel industry, CCA will be able to offer innovative advertising opportunities to many brands and reach a wide array of consumers ranging from leisure travelers to C-suite executives to sophisticated sports fans.

Additionally a recent Nielsen study shows that nearly 60 percent of business and leisure travelers believe that advertising in airports is an indicator of high-quality brands and products, and more than three-quarters of leisure and business travelers say they notice airport digital ads, with over one-third of travelers surveyed confirming they will visit a website or use an app to find out more about a product or service they see advertised inside an airport.

CCA’s advertising program at ROA will feature enhancements such as:

  • A large format LCD Network: Visible to nearly all arriving passengers video walls will be part of a terminal-wide digital network offering a rich media experience;
  • Large Tension Fabric Displays: These displays offer stand-out, highly visible placement in high traffic areas and in long dwell time areas in the terminal throughout the concourse and baggage claim

“We are pleased to welcome Clear Channel Airports as our airport advertising partner,” said Tim Bradshaw, A.A.E. Roanoke Regional Airport Commission Executive Director. “Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport provides a great opportunity for companies to present their brands to hundreds of thousands of travelers, meters and greeters each year. Advertising in the airport exposes local and regional businesses to consumers from all over the world in a way no other media can.”

Representatives from Clear Channel Airports will be at the Roanoke Airport the week of Sept. 12.
