Birmingham, Ala. — August 30, 2016 — This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the iconic Southern Museum of Flight. In honor of this incredible milestone, the museum will host a 50th Anniversary Gala celebration on Saturday, October 29, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The event will benefit the educational programs offered at the museum.

Education Coordinator Melissa Morgan explains, “This Golden Anniversary is an exciting opportunity for us to highlight how much we have grown throughout our 50 year history and to increase our community’s engagement in aviation and aviation history.” The museum’s staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly in recent years to create unique and dynamic exhibit experiences and programs within the museum that are not available anywhere else in the state or region. “By incorporating exhibit dioramas and interactive learning opportunities, we have seen increased utilization of our museum by school groups and general visitors,” Morgan says.

The Southern Museum of Flight is partnering with local chefs to bring the best of Birmingham cuisine to the Gala guests. The exemplary menu will be coupled with a carefully curated selection of complementary wine and beer offerings. Guests can also look forward to a silent auction featuring local favorites, as well as entertainment provided by a live band.

The 50th Anniversary Gala will be held at Healthsouth Corporate Flight Department at 4851 65th Place North, Hangar 20, Birmingham AL 35206. Two different ticket package options are priced at $150 and $250.

The museum is located in East Lake, two blocks from the Birmingham International Airport, at 4343 73rd Street North. The Southern Museum of Flight is dedicated to investigating, preserving and promoting the rich stories of Southern aviation and to providing exciting, interactive educational programming for people of all ages. Through collaborative partnerships with the community, the Southern Museum of Flight provides a continuum of exhibitions, displays and educational services with a sincere devotion to cultural and historical literacy.
