Aug. 29, 2016

Passenger traffic at Denver International Airport (DEN) in July set a new record for the busiest month in the airport’s history, with more than 5.4 million passengers.

July also marked the eleventh consecutive month of record-setting passenger traffic, with a total of 5,474,503 travelers – an increase of 9.1 percent compared to July 2015. Year-to-date passenger traffic at DEN was 7.2 percent higher than during the same time in 2015, with 33,011,136 passengers through the end of July.

In July, DEN also set new records for each of the top 20 busiest days in the airport’s history, led by the new all-time record of 186,351 passengers on July 29.

“Denver International Airport continues to see record numbers of passengers as we continue the busy summer travel season, with United, Frontier, Southwest and Delta all adding seat capacity,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “We also saw a strong increase in international passenger traffic in July, which was bolstered by Lufthansa’s decision to up-gauge the aircraft used for its new nonstop flight to Munich, adding 25 percent more seats for this popular route.”

The airport’s international passenger traffic in July increased 12.5 percent compared to the same time last year, with a total of 212,229 passengers.

Mail, freight and express cargo operations saw 44,115,862 pounds of cargo in July 2016, a decrease of 5.7 percent compared to the same month in 2015.
