FAI Updates Operational Orders to Reflect New Smoking Policy

Aug. 11, 2016

Recent updates to the Fairbanks International Airport’s (FAI) Operational Orders reflect changes to smoking policy. By state ordinance, smoking is prohibited in all enclosed facilities within the terminal and state Of Alaska DOT/PF facilities. This includes common work areas, conference and meeting rooms, private offices, shared offices, elevators, hallways, cafeterias, employee lounges, stairwells, restrooms, vehicles, and all other enclosed facilities under the Airport Authority.

FAI relocated its designated smoking areas from the north and south ends of the terminal to one convenient location on the west side of the passenger pick-up lanes across for the arrival doors and baggage claim. A glass smoking shelter has been added for comfort and convenience.

In addition, smoking is not permitted on the airside of the passenger terminal or within 25 feet of a doorway at other airport owned (non-terminal) buildings. Updates are to take effect immediately; failure to comply may subject responsible parties to citations by the Airport Police. Click here to view FAI’s smoking policy.
